Elvira Annie Cowles was born in Unadilla, New York on November 23, 1813. Elvira was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 19, 1835, and later moved to Nauvoo and resided with Joseph Smith’s family. In 1842 she married Jonathan H. Holmes and was sealed to Joseph Smith on 1 June 1843. Elvira traveled with the Jedediah M. Grant pioneer company to Salt Lake City and resided in Davis County until her passing in 1871.
