Desdemona was born on October 6, 1809 in Huntington, Pennsylvania. In 1835, her family settled south of Cleveland, Ohio, where she was baptized two years later. She then moved to Nauvoo and resided in Joseph Smith's home by the spring of 1842 where she was instructed about plural marriage by him. She wed Joseph Smith in July 1843 and later journeyed to Utah with fellow Saints, remaining a devoted member until her passing in 1886.
